The Bell 407 is a popular utility aircraft, first put into service in 1996. Over the years, this aircraft has gone through many upgrades and improvements – and that includes the external cargo hook equipment. As the 407 is a derivative model of the Bell 206L aircraft, the original factory-installed cargo hook on the Bell 407 was based on the Bell 206L cargo hook suspension system. As many operators know, that suspension system was an “open beam” trolley design (see Figure 1) that allowed the load to shift side-to-side along an exposed suspension system track.

In 1997, Onboard Systems received certification for a “closed beam” trolley design (see Figure 2) for use on both the Bell 206L and 407 aircraft. This cargo hook system is only available through Onboard Systems.

In 2007, Onboard Systems worked with Bell Helicopters to develop a “fixed beam” design (see Figure 3) exclusively for the 407. This cargo hook system is available for factory installation by Bell, or as an after-market purchase directly from Onboard Systems.

As cargo hook technology has evolved, Onboard continues to introduce new cargo hook systems for the Bell 407 that incorporate all of the latest safety improvements. Consequently, for operators looking to install a cargo hook system on a new or used Bell 407, there are a large number of cargo kit options available to consider. TALON LC Keeperless Cargo Hook Kits

• Bell 407 Cargo Hook Kit with TALON LC Keeperless Cargo Hook (P/N 200-296-00) — If you want to have a cargo hook kit installed by Bell Helicopters, this is the kit they will install for you. This kit is exclusively available for OEM factory installation under BELL P/N 206-706-341-141A.
   
• Bell 407 Cargo Hook Kit with TALON LC Keeperless Cargo Hook (P/N 200-329-00) — If you have a Bell 407 with (1) an OEM open-beam suspension system, or (2) an Onboard Systems closed-beam suspension system already installed, and you want to upgrade to a fixed-beam suspension system with a keeperless cargo hook, this is a kit to consider. It does not include the fixed provisions (i.e., the pillow block attachment brackets that are mounted onto the belly of the aircraft), so if you are setting up a new or existing Bell 407 for external loadwork, you will also need to purchase the Bell 407 Cargo Hook Fixed Provisions Kit (P/N 200-328-00).

TALON LC Keeperless Cargo Hook Kits with Surefire Release Technology

• Bell 407 Cargo Hook Kit with Surefire TALON LC Keeperless Hook (P/N 200-329-10) — If you have a Bell 407 with (1) an OEM open-beam suspension system, or (2) an Onboard Systems closed-beam suspension system already installed, and you want to upgrade to a fixed-beam suspension system with a keeperless cargo hook, this is a kit to consider.
